We are environmental engineers who specialise in dynamic simulation modelling (DSM), computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and daylighting simulation.
With over 40 years construction industry experience we offer independent support and advice covering a wide range of building performance issues.
The computer models are used to predict design performance and develop operating strategies providing valuable feedback
to architects, building services engineers and other building professionals. We support legal claims and responses providing modelling work,
engineering analysis and opinion to expert witness teams and undertake independent impartial third party reviews.
Applications include thermal comfort, energy use, mechanical plant, fire and smoke clearance, clean rooms, daylight studies, natural and
mechanical ventilation. We deal with any building modelling enquiry in an informative manner as possible and are happy to offer informal advice
or detailed fee proposals as required.
Dynamic Model or CFD?
This depends on the nature of the study. In broad terms:-
Dynamic thermal models are multi-zone and answer a range of time based questions related to whole building performance in terms of thermal comfort,
energy and air movement. Results give a single bulk temperature or volume flow for each zone.
CFD studies mostly represent part of a building, are more detailed and based on a single moment or short time span. Results show fine detail such as temperature or air distribution within a single zone.

About Us
“I have been involved in the construction industry for over forty years. After working as a senior member of on-site staff I graduated from the University of Strathclyde as an Environmental Engineer and gained a Masters Degree ‘Energy Systems and the Environment’ a couple of years later. I founded Building Performance Analysis Limited in 2002 and have managed around 250 projects as an independent building simulation consultancy. As a Chartered Engineer I am committed to assisting design teams provide low energy environments which are comfortable, pleasing and productive.”
